Born in Tuxpan Michoacán, he completed his studies in Chemical Engineering at UMSNH School of Chemical Engineering between 1983 and 1988. He has a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering Sciences, which he obtained in 1990. He also completed his Ph.D in Chemical Engineering Sciences in 1999 at Instituto Técnologico de Celaya’s Department of Chemical Engineering.
He was hired as an Associated Junior Professor and Investigator at UMSNH School of Chemical Engineering in 1991, where his current position is Senior Investigator and Professor. He has given 56 course lectures to BS, MS and Ph.D. students. He has also been an assessor for 32 BS, 8 MS and 2 Ph.D thesis works. He advocates the investigation trend for chemical engineering processes, whose main focus is sustainable and efficient use of water and energy.
He is the joint author of 122 publications, of which 85 of them are scientific articles in specialized magazines, 30 book chapters, 3 books and four published articles. To date, his articles have been quoted 905 times. He has presented 163 pieces of scientific work at national and international congresses; he has given 50 conferences, courses and workshops at request. He has negotiated and obtained funds for the development of nine research projects, both individual and collective ones. He has taken part in the organization of 14 scientific events, certification courses, workshops and forums. He has been a juror for many scientific magazines indexed in the JCR and has been an evaluator for National Higher Education Institutions’ Graduate Programs as well as research proposals. He founded the Graduate Chemical Engineering Program at UMSNH and was also a founding member of the Sciences Academy of Michoacán.
He has been awarded various acknowledgements and awards, among which are Level II Investigator by the National System of Investigators, Regular Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and Head Scholar of the Engineering Academy. In 2013, the Mexican Institute of Chemical Engineers honored him with the IMIQ award for Excellence in Teaching of Chemical Engineering. This year, he received the “Best Paper of SDEWES 2013 Conference” award from the Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems Center. Seven generations of graduates from UMSNH School of Chemical Engineers have honored him by naming their generation after him. He is a member of the Academic Board of Chemical Engineering Processes, which the Secretary of Public Education has acknowledged with a Level of Consolidation for its quality since the year 2006. The Secretary of Public Education has repeatedly given him de distinction of Ideal Professor Profile PROMEP.
He has held various positions, among which standout Headmaster of the School of Chemical Engineering at UMSNH, from 2000 to 2003, President of the Mexican Institute of Chemical Engineers in Morelia from 2003 to 2004, President of the Inter-Institutional Graduate Programs Committee for Public Universities in the Central and West Regions of ANUIES from 2006 to 2008, President of the Mexican Board of Graduate Programs from 2011 to 2012, General Coordinator of Graduate Programs at UMSNH from 2003 to 2015 and the Dean of the UMSNH since this year.
