Dr. José de Jesús Williams was elected as Rector of the Autonomous University of Yucatán on November 3rd, 2014 for the period of January 1st, 2015 to December 31st, 2018.
Dr. Williams attended the Veterinary School at the Autonomous University of Yucatán., UADY. He has earned a Specialty in Teaching and has Master degrees in Tropical Animal Production, Animal Health Option and in Educational Management Organizations from UADY. He also has a Master of Science in Society with professionalizing approach Mention: education, work and training, specialty: project management and organizations, from the University Paris XII. He has two PH.Ds, one in Animal Science from the University of Colima and another one in Educational Research and Curriculum Development of School Organization from the University of Granada.
He is a full time Professor, level "C" of the Veterinary School at UADY, where he has developed teaching and research activities. From 2002 to 2006 he was the Academic Secretary at that School.
From 2006 to 2010 he was Dean of UADY´s Veterinary School. He has been a Member of the Permanent Academic Committee of the University’s council at UADY, as well as Member of the Technical Council of the General Examination for Veterinary degrees (CENEVAL) by its Spanish acronym. From 2011 to 2014 he held the position of General Director for Academic Development at UADY.
Dr. William is an epidemiologist, as well as an International Certified Evaluator of Latin America Universities (UDUAL) by its Spanish acronym. He has been a Representative of Central America and the Caribbean at the World Health Organization for the "characterization and monitoring of foodborne pathogens and their antimicrobial resistance and integrated foodborne disease surveillance". Also he has been an Evaluator of CONACYT’s projects in the area of Medicine and Animal Health as well as Internal Evaluator at the Research Institute of Veterinary School at the Autonomous University of Baja California.
He has published 22 scientific articles, three book chapters and a book. Likewise he has advised twenty one thesis, 6 for undergraduate level, 12 for master degree and three for doctoral degrees.
