Dra. Julieta Heres Pulido
Psichology

Dr Julieta Heres Pulido obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, during the 1960-1964 school years. She was only 21 years of age at the time.

From the beginning, she showed a keen interest in clinical areas, which led her to pursue a master’s degree in clinical psychology and a doctorate in the psychology of health at the University of Guadalajara. In view of her keen interest and the quality of her work, she is regarded as one of the pioneers of neuropsychology in Mexico and Latin America.

Her work at several health care institutions, such as Hospital General de México, Hospital “20 de noviembre,” Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía, among others, as well as her contacts with the most important neuropsychologists in the world, enabled her to learn, be trained and grow as a neuropsychologist, and contribute with techniques and assessment and intervention methodologies intended for people with neurological problems. Her motto was “the technique is implemented by theory, although the method is devised according to the patient’s needs.” At the Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía, she worked alongside Dr Manuel Velasco Suárez, who enabled her to develop her ideas and carry out her work in this field.

She co-authored several publications with authors as important as Dr Jordi Peña Casanova (author of the first book on neuropsychology in Spanish). Similarly, her work made it possible for her to work with Dr Oller Daurella, A renowned epileptologist.

Similarly, she was one of the founders of the first graduate programme in neuropsychology offered in Latin America. She was a tireless professional also engaged in teaching, both in hospitals and colleges. She awakened an interest in psychology among students, neurologists and residents, and an interest in providing patients with comprehensive medical assistance.

She was a member and a strong supporter of the Sociedad Americana de Neuropsicología (SLAN)
