AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF BAJA CALIFORNIA

According to its internal regulations, published on February 28th, 1957, the Autonomous University of Baja California is a public and autonomous institution with full legal capacity, whose objectives are: to provide higher education in order to train professionals, promote and conduct scientific research, giving preference to those projects aimed at solving the problems of the state and the country, and to promote the benefits of culture. The University has campuses in Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada, in addition to University centres located in Ciudad Morelos, San Felipe, Playas de Rosarito and San Quintín.

The University’s curricula are flexible and student-centred. In addition, the teaching of values, culture and sports is also incorporated into the curricula as well as internships and social service closely intertwined with the University’s curricula. Students receive individual academic advice during the entire education process provided through the University’s academic advising and psycho-pedagogical programmes. The University provides service to 29,182 students enrolled in 59 bachelor’s programmes, and two advanced technical degrees, in addition to the 744 students enrolled in 52 graduate programmes. The University has 35 programmes certified by organs recognized by Mexico’s Council for Higher Education Evaluation, and 11 bachelor’s programmes are included in CIEES’s Level I classification register. The University’s faculty is comprised of 849 full-time professors, 69.1% of whom have completed graduate studies.
