This is the oldest University in south-east Mexico, since it began to operate in colonial times. In 1984, with the passing of the University’s internal regulations, this institution became autonomous. The University is located in the City of Mérida, a strategic point in south-east Mexico and the capital of the State of Yucatán, which in recent years has became a major business centre providing both medical and educational services, whose aims and objectives include the provinces of south-east Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The University has gained recognition from the society of this peninsula as well as national prestige for having prepared professionals during the University’s 82 years of existence.

UADY’s structure is comprised of 5 campuses that are organized according to the institution’s fields of knowledge. Similarly, the Eastern Unit is located in the City of Tizimín, where the nursing, computer and educational science bachelor’s programmes are offered, and whose presence in this area represents innovative learning available to rural communities.
