AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF HIDALGO

This is the oldest education institution in the State of Hidalgo. It was founded in February, 1869, in the City of Pachuca, under the name Instituto Literario y Escuela de Artes y Oficios. The University’s first internal regulations were published in the year 1872, premised upon positivism, which provides the basis for the University’s current motto, “Love, Order and Progress.” This is a state University that became autonomous in the year 1961. Nowadays, the University has 6 institutes, 6 multidisciplinary academic units located in several municipalities, a campus in the City of Salamanca, Spain, and 5 independent high schools.
In the early 1990s, the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo underwent a dramatic transformation in all respects, and that was the time when the University’s strategic and evaluation planning mechanisms were strengthened as a result of the participation of the members of the University community, collegial work, and the pursuit of academic goals and external funding mechanisms. According to the institution’s 2002-2006 Institutional Plan for University Quality (PICU), the University’s work is built on the foundations of the culture of transparency and academic and management accountability. In addition, the University’s modernization of infrastructure has resulted in sufficient and state-of-the-art equipment for use at the institution’s laboratories, fieldwork and workshops.

The University has 9,476 high school students, 249 students in its associate and advanced technical degrees, 18,644 in its bachelor’s programmes and 443 in graduate studies. The University offers 3 advanced technical and associate degrees; 62 bachelor’s programmes at various campuses, 19 of which are included in CIEES’s Level 1 classification register, while 9 are accredited by COPAES’s affiliates. In addition, the University offers 50 graduate programmes. The University’s faculty is comprised of 551 full-time professors, 87% of whom have completed graduate studies.
