This state University, which became autonomous in the year 1923, has 12 faculties, two schools, two multidisciplinary academic units, one coordinating department with new bachelor’s degrees and one high school. It conducts research through its 15 research centres and institutes. The capital of the State of San Luis Potosí hosts three campuses, located in the city’s western, central and east areas. The University’s Multidisciplinary Academic Unit of the Huastec area, the Multidisciplinary Academic Unit of the middle area, and the High School of Matehuala are located in other regions.

During the past two decades, the University’s dynamics increased considerably, following the strengthening of the University’s strategic and evaluation planning mechanisms, which resulted from the participation of the members of the University community, collegial work and the pursuit of academic goals and external funding mechanisms. The University is immersed in the culture of transparency and academic and management accountability. In addition, the University’s infrastructure is modern and operational, and also has sophisticated and state-of-the-art equipment for use at the institution’s laboratories, fieldwork and workshops.
