UNIVERSITY OF COLIMA

The University of Colima is located in Colima, the gateway to the Asia Pacific market, in Mexico’s central-west region. Founded on September 16th, 1940, as Popular University, the University of Colima became autonomous on August 25th, 1962. After six decades promoting education, research and culture, the University’s principles (freedom of teaching, discussion of ideas, and student equality) remain strong, with the aim of contributing permanently to community welfare by training human resources committed to society; rising to the challenges posed by modernization and globalization by forging an identity characterized by academic prestige and high quality education.

At present, the University has 12,367 students at its high schools; 10,214 students are enrolled in its associate degrees and bachelor’s programmes, and there are 604 graduate students. The University of Colima offers 17 high school education programmes, 10 associate degrees, 58 bachelor’s programmes, 11 specialization programmes, 22 master’s degrees and 9 doctorates. These programmes are offered at the Manzanillo, Tecomán, Colima, Coquimatlán and Villa de Álvarez campuses. 40 of the University’s bachelor’s programmes are included in CIEES’s Level 1 classification register. The University’s faculty is comprised of 427 full-time professors, 90.6% of whom have completed gradate studies.
